BIRTHDAY MINI-INVESTIGATION
We made
decorations in the class to prepare for our celebration.
We made banners to hang around the room. We picked out what we wanted to decorate our banners, either stickers or chalk or feathers.
We made a piñata to hang from the ceiling. First we paper mached the piñata and then we painted it. Then we decorated it with tissue paper. Casey squished the tissue paper together to make little balls.
We choose what kind of cake we would like to make for our party, chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla. We glue which one we choose onto our graph and then counted to see which one had the most.
We made invitations to send home to tell our families about our party. We painted the paper and then glued on the information.
We made birthday cards to give to our friends at our celebration. We painted, glued, and colored our card and then added a Happy Birthday sticker. We picked a friend in the class to give our card to and then wrote their name on the back.
We made a big birthday sign that said Happy Birthday. We each got a letter and colored it.
We practiced making a birthday cake in class. We mixed all of the ingredients in and then stirred it all up. Then we baked it in Ms. Diane’s kitchen. We used sprinkles and candles to decorate the cake when it was finished and then we practiced eating it!
In the home living area we practiced having birthday parties. We made all the food and then sat together and ate it. We would even practice singing “Happy Birthday” to everyone.
We practiced having a real birthday party when it was William 2nd birthday. William’s mom brought in cookies for us to eat and we sang happy birthday to him. William wore a birthday crown during his birthday.
We decorated balloons that we cut out. We painted them with lots of colors and put them on our door to let everyone know we were having a celebration.
We made a big clown to make a game of pin the nose on the clown. We made a shirt and glued on tissue paper and then made pants by gluing on fabric patches. We made a big face and glued on string for the hair. Then we added a big red velcro nose so we could play the game.
