Nature-based Learning

Picture
Children thrive when they are given the opportunity to form authentic relationships with the natural world. Nature-based learning at our center is not limited to field trips or special days—it is woven into the everyday rhythm of life. Our outdoor classrooms serve as extensions of the indoor space and are used in all seasons. Children dig in the soil, build with sticks, observe insects, and engage with natural materials that change over time. This hands-on, sensory-rich learning develops a deep emotional connection to the land, which we believe is foundational for future environmental advocacy. Nature-based learning fosters resilience, creativity, and wonder—qualities that empower children to become thoughtful stewards of the Earth.

Exploring with Purpose: Connecting Children to Nature and Meaningful Learning

Young children are natural explorers—curious, creative, and full of wonder. When given the opportunity to engage with the world around them, especially through outdoor play and hands-on experiences, they build essential skills, deepen their understanding of the environment, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

This collection of resources—including Nature Kits and Guided Discovery Explorations—is designed to inspire educators, caregivers, and families to foster that sense of wonder through thoughtful, open-ended activities rooted in nature, sustainability, and inquiry. These guides support children in observing closely, asking questions, and making meaningful connections to their surroundings, while also encouraging creativity, empathy, and care for the planet.

Whether it's through imaginative outdoor play, rhythm and movement, or investigations of water and fabric, these resources honor children's natural curiosity and empower them to explore, discover, and create—both independently and together.
