SESSION #1

Went on a rock hunt around our school and then washed the rocks that we had found .
Looked at books about rocks.
Explored rocks and minerals with magnifying glasses.
Matched rocks and fossils to their names.
Read: Rocks! Rocks! Rocks! by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace. 

SESSION #2

Sorted rocks by one attribute (size, color, texture, and shape).
Matched rocks and minerals to their names. 
Drew sketches of our rock pets.
Read If You Find a Rock by Peggy Christian.

SESSION #3

Painted our rock pets.
Explored rocks with magnifying glasses.

SESSION # 4

Learned about igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks.
Discussed the difference between rocks and minerals.
Explored fossils found in Ohio and fossils found in other parts of the United States. 
Met the "Rock Man", Mike Manning.  Mike is a retired geology and earth science teacher who has worked with rocks and minerals as a business for over 35 years. His program include Show & Tell and Gem Screening. 
Sifted for rocks and minerals with the "Rock Man".
Matched our rocks and minerals to the rock board to learn the names of the rocks and minerals we found.
Cracked open a geode to see the inside.
Learned how minerals and rocks are used to make almost everything in our homes.
Played in the sprinkler on the playground. 

SESSION # 5

Matched our rocks from the rock man to learn the names.
Sifted and sorted pebbles, silt, and sand.
Created a KWL chart about rocks.

SESSION # 6

We went on a rock hunt.
Practiced writing words with chalk rock (limestone).
Washed rocks with toothbrushes in the sensory table.

SESSION # 7

Measured the circumference of rocks with strings and chains.
Weighed rocks using scales.
Put rocks in order of large to small.
Painted with rocks.
Used the hardness scale to determine the names of the minerals by scratching rocks with glass, tile, and pennies. 
Built structures with large rocks on the carpet.

SESSION # 8

Made imprints of leaves, seeds, and shells using air dry clay. 
Sorted and identified different types of fossils.
Cleaned and strained sediment from North Carolina to identify fossils found in the sediment.

SESSION # 9

Explored sediment looking for fossils.
Identified the names of fossils.
Identified the names of minerals, metamorphic, igneous, and sedimentary rocks.
Built sculptures with rocks.

SESSION # 10

Created artwork with rocks and various art materials.
Explored real fossils, fossil models and fossil books.

Sang and danced to the Tooty Ta Song.
