This module is designed as an introduction for participants whose program has chosen to adopt The ACCESS Curriculum. This module highlights foundational philosophies, professional standards, and developmentally appropriate practice before walking participants through the major components of The ACCESS Curriculum.

Setting Up an ACCESS Classroom guides participants through the process of creating an inspiring learning environment for young children. Participants will also engage in critical reflection with their teaching team. Each member of the teaching team must register to receive credit. Topics covered in this module include classroom design/enhancement as well as building a cohesive and effective teaching team.

Implementing The ACCESS Curriculum dives deeply into the Intentional Decision Making Cycle and teaches participants how to use inquiry and intentionality in everyday interactions. Participants learn how to obtain reliable assessment data and analyze findings in order to develop curriculum that is relevant to children while addressing their needs.  The topics in this module include assessment, planning, science, inquiry and creativity.

A4: Infusing the Science of Reading throughout the ACCESS Curriculum

The Science of Reading criteria are infused throughout the ACCESS Curriculum with a focus on ongoing investigations, mini investigations and daily routines. Participants will learn how to create, implement and assess the three SoR criteria. Special attention will focus on 
  • Explicit instructional routines for teaching new vocabulary that include child-friendly definitions.
  • Opportunities for children to practice new vocabulary in play-based ways.
